Private is traditionally the name for the lowest soldier rank in Allied armies, it is used by both US and British rank systems. This is one of the original five ranks existing since BFE#1. Note that sometimes, the rank Recruit is ranked even lower.

Position within Chain of Command
In the Order of Precedence, Private is classified as OR-1 in the NATO System and as Level 1 in the Ewok rank classification system.
It is the lowest of the Allied and US Infantry ranks. The next higher rank is Private First Class, or Corporal in the Canadian rank system.

This rank was already used in BFE#1, initially even Axis players wore the Private insignia. It is thus one of the five original ranks from BFE.
