Modern Warfare 2: A review at the future of FPS Online gaming.
![[Image: mw2banner.jpg]](http://images.ctagames.com/global/news-headers/mw2banner.jpg)
Recently, it was announced that Modern Warfare 2 was not going to support dedicated servers. This created a huge up-roar for the pc community, as they were the most effected by this. Many called it blacked sunday, others just accused the company of turning its back on its foundation, which lead to this question: Do PC gamers carry the weight of influence it once had in the gaming world? NO!
I know many people who will read this will completely disagree with me but hear me out. World of Warcraft servers is hosted by its company Blizzard, just like IW will be doing. I could point out that Counter strike, one of the best FPS games on the market and the fore father to all other FPS online games, is still popular. Then again pac-man was the best arcade game during its time of popularity and still can fetch a cult following, just like the COD series.
In the end, I see this as a sign of things to come for all FPS games on the pc. Companies want to control the content and how the game goes forth, it translates into money for them. Do we PC gamers have any say on this? Not anymore as the console gamers are growing and with that gaining more influence on the direction these games take, as that is where the money is.
Sorry PC guys, our end is not in sight but the writing is on the wall for fps games online.

RE: Modern Warfare 2: A review at the future of FPS Online gaming.
First of all, every serious competitive gamer is a PC gamer. If you think you are a competitive gamer and you are using a console, you are just plain wrong.
Secondly and most importantly, you have stated some incorrect facts which you shouldn't have posted without checking. World of Warcraft is hosted by Blizzards own servers. IW is not providing servers like this, if they were then they would be providing dedicated servers and this whole uproar would be much less of an issue. Instead, IWnet will choose a computer in the game and that computer will host the game for that computers player and all the other players. This is called P2P hosting and it is godawful. PC FPS gamers do everything 10 times faster than a console gamer and when the host has a ping of 0 he has a MASSIVE advantage over all the other players in his server. While on a console it takes ages to do anything, even something as simple as turning 180 degrees on the spot, a PC gamer will do that in milliseconds with a suitable flick of the mouse. He might also do the rotation while jumping and begin looking down his scope, he might see an enemy just before the scope takes over from normal vision and immediately adjust his aim so that as soon as the scope has taken his vision he can shoot and kill his opponent...then he lands from his jump. I know as both a PC and console gamer there is NO WAY in hell a console gamer can do anything so complex without the auto-aiming functions that console games require for the players to play at all, and even if he could he wouldn't - all he has to do is spin around as fast as possible and fire to abuse the auto-aim and get an easy kill.
You also mention counterstrike. Counterstike is hosted on dedicated servers and you do not play on unmodded servers because that is not what the players want. In CoDMW2, IW have removed the possibility of mods, rendering the competative online community almost dead before it has begun. No mods = no removal of non-competative perks and weapons which means no competitive play.
I don't believe that this is the future of FPS games. It has opened up the playing field to be the next competitive online FPS since COD4, and before that, counterstrike. Btw, counterstrike was a fan creation, not a money driven enterprise. PC FPS games will be just fine.

I feel better now. Nothing like a bit of nerd rage when IW pull one over on you.

Yeah, I was gonna write all this but you stole it from me but thanks. Completely ridiculous but atleast the singleplayer was good, but not good enough to buy for 5 hours of entertainment.
